Billy Graziadei (BillyBio): Je moet New York in New York laten

Ik spreek Billy Graziadei via Zoom vanuit onze huiskamers. Zijn vrouw brengt hem wat koffie voor het gesprek begint. Alles  laat zien dat hij een gewone, sympathieke kerel is. En dat terwijl hij toch een flinke carrière heeft gemaakt met bands als Biohazard, Powerflo en zijn solo-project BillyBio. Hij is net herstellende van COVID, maar maakt het tijdens het gesprek gelukkig weer prima zodat we het kunnen hebben over zijn nieuwe album, Leader And Liars en zijn interessante leven.
Proficiat met het nieuwe album. Hoe kwam dat tot stand en hoe weet je wat een Powerflo, Biohazard of BillyBio nummer wordt?
Ik ben altijd bezig met het schrijven van nummers. Ik krijg altijd en overal ideeën en deze plaat leek zichzelf te schrijven. Ik had ineens een collectie van nummers die samen bleken te passen. De titel kwam ook snel in me op. Ik heb iets cools gedaan tijdens de pandemie op mijn Patreon, daar documenteerde ik het schrijven van twee nummers. Ik maakte zeven afleveringen waarin ik gewoon ging zitten met mijn akoestische gitaar en liet vanuit daar zien hoe de akoestische riff in de studio een nummer werd met drums en bas. Ik begin niet bewust met het schrijven van een nummer voor Powerflo, Biohazard of Billy

KK NULL (real name KAZUYUKI KISHINO) was born in Tokyo, Japan. Composer, guitarist, singer, mastermind of ZENI GEVA and electronic wizard. One of the top names in Japanese noise music and in a wider context, one of the great cult artists in experimental music since the early 80&#;s.

&#;In June of i had the good fortune of visiting Darwin in the Northern Territory in Australia and explored in Kakadu National Park with some good friends. I took my digital recorder along with me and did some live field recordings there. First we encountered a flock of wild birds (Little Corella or Cacatua Pastinator) just beside the South Alligator River, and then we happened to find &#;bush fire&#; flaring just beside the road we were on. I also had a unique opportunity to record a magnificent symphony orchestra of insects, frogs and birds in wetlands just before sunset.

    BIOGRAPHY

    Michael Vlatkovich (° May 4th, in St. Louis, Missouri), trombonist, composer, and arranger, is one of the leading talents among Los Angeles improvisational players. Located on the West Coast since , he is an emotionally charged performer, comfortable in a variety of jazz and world music styles. He has performed extensively in the United States, Canada, and Europe. His improvisational free music expresses raw power and beauty in a minimally structured format.

    Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Michael began studying music with the school band in the third grade. He distinguished himself in high school and was awarded a music scholarship to attend the St. Louis Institute of Music. Prior to his education at the Institute, he took part in an intensive six week workshop with internationally acclaimed saxophonist Oliver Nelson and guest soloists, Thad Jones, Mel Lewis, Roland Hanna, Ron Carter, and Phil Woods. Among his fellow students were Hamiett Bluett, Joe Bowie, Julius Hemphill, and Oliver Lake.

    In addition to leading his own diverse imaginative ensembles, Vlatkovich has performed with a wide array of singers and instrumentalists including Peggy Lee, Brian Setzer, Bryan Adams, Bobby Bradford
